Awww...Bath Time

My dogs are allowed on the furniture. I enjoy snuggling on the couch while watching Dr. Pol and taking afternoon naps with the A/C cranked up. What I don't like, however, is the dirty dog smell. Sharing living spaces with the dogs requires a little work to keep the stink away. This includes:
  • Washable furniture covers
  • Changing the sheets often
  • A vacuum cleaner that really sucks (I have a Dyson)
  • And regular baths for the dogs
I wash the dogs about once a month, more as needed. I have a grooming table and forced air dryer and usually do it in my back yard. However, about a year ago we had a Pet Supplies Plus open up in town and they have a self-service dog wash. It's awesome! For $15 I can wash and blow out both dogs. The store provides all the amenities and they clean up the mess. Hubby went with me last week. Instead of helping, he took pictures. These are the best ones. He was laughing so hard at Jedi's fussing that most of the pictures were blurry.

The raised tub is perfect for my back and everything I need is right there

Jedi is very vocal at bath time. Everyone in the store comes by to
see what's going on. He's howling in this picture.

Roxy watched Jedi get his bath. I'd swear she was laughing at him too!

Ah, clean dogs! Much better. It's Awww...Monday. This is a hop where various bloggers try to brighten your Monday with Awww-inspiring posts. Click around below and see what others are sharing today. A big thanks to Sandee over at Comedy Plus for hosting this hop. -- K

Blogger Challenge Winners (IMHO)

Last week I participated in the Pet Blogger Challenge. Over 100 bloggers added their blogs to the blog hop. Most of them were A LOT more experienced than me; all of them had something interesting to say. I hope you checked them out. Below are a few of the blogs that stood out for me. I hope you check them out. Please tell me what you think. Did you find a blog that I missed? If so, let me know!

  •  Dawg Business is dedicated to dog health issues. A lot of information has been compiled in the 3 years that the blog has been around. The posts are well organized and it's very easy to spend hours clicking around this site (trust me on this).
  • Doggie Paddling is a new blog with only a handful of posts, but it's definitely worth watching. I like the product reviews and now I really want a Bark Box. I also think that everybody should read the post on keeping an emergency dog pack in the car.
  • The Elka Almanac is eclectic and fun. It reminds me of a more polished Doberman Pinscher version of my blog. The kind of blog mine would like to be when it grows up! The Where Do Puppies Come From? post is worth reading!
  • Just Another Dog Blog is pure eye candy! The subtitle is "ONE CAMERA, 2 DOGS, AND A LOT OF FREE TIME." The pictures are absolutely beautiful!
  • The Preventive Vet is another blog about health issues written by an emergency room veterinarian.
  • Something Wagging This Way Comes is another blog I really enjoy. It's funny and fresh. Also, the author doesn't forget that her dog is a dog, not a "furry child." That bugs me!
I'm also happy to report that I received some wonderful blog tips from other bloggers. What an incredible community I stumbled into! I have the next three days off and plan on tweaking my blog in between errands and puppy class. I hope you enjoy the changes. A big "Thank You!" goes out to everybody who stopped by. -- K

    Fun Blogs

I really appreciate your taking the time to read my silly blog. Below are a few sites/blogs I enjoy visiting in my spare time. I thought I'd share. I hope you enjoy them too.

    • Go Pet Friendly is written by a couple travelling the country with their dogs and a Winnebago, sharing all the pet-friendly places they find along the way. What a dream!!
    • I spend a lot of time on Dogster. The articles are often interesting, sometimes infuriating and always changing.
    • The Large Dog Blog is part of the Paw Posse site, a great place to find products for big dogs.
    • Dr. Sophia Yin has some very interesting posts about dog training and behavior. There are also videos and downloadable charts.
    • Dog Shaming makes me laugh until I cry.
    • 3 Lost Dogs is a funny, no-nonsense blog about rescued dogs and dogs with issues. It's helped me with Roxy more than once.

I'm slowly checking out the blogs from 100 participants in the Pet Blogger Challenge. What a turnout!! I'll share anything I find interesting. How about you? Did you see anything you liked? If so, let me know! -- K

No reason for this picture. I'm just in an odd mood,
and Logan wearing hats always made me laugh.
    I still miss him.

    She Did WHAT?!

I am soooo embarrassed. I took Roxy to Petsmart to buy dog food and she took a dump right in the middle of the dog food aisle! So what's a girl to do? I told her she was a bad dog, cleaned it up . . . and took a picture Dog Shaming style.

Have you seen this site? People post pictures of their dogs with signs stating the "horrible" things they've done. Things like "I humped the cat" or "I eat Mommy's shoes." Sometimes there's pictures of the evidence. I think it's hilarious. I laugh so hard that I can't breathe. Hubby just rolls his eyes and asks "Are you looking at bad dog pictures again?" If you haven't seen Dog Shaming click on the link and check it out -- I'll wait.

Did you see it? Are you wiping tears out of your eyes? Well, apparently not everybody thinks it's funny. I've read complaints that the site is cruel, mean-spirited and the incidents are a result of bad owners. Give me a break! Here's my take on it:

    • These dogs are not being abused. Sometimes the dogs look remorseful, though every dog owner knows they're not. Dogs live in the moment -- that's one of the great parts about being a dog! The remorseful look is a ruse. Pepper was an expert at looking sad and submissive, especially if she thought she could get something edible out of it. Logan looked guilty anytime I used a stern voice, regardless of what he'd done or what was being said. If I lowered my tone and said "Who wants a cookie?" he would drop his ears and flash the puppy-dog eyes. Roxy, on the other hand, doesn't feel remorse or shame for anything. I've seen her drop a grown man with a headbutt to the groin and then jump in circles, thinking it's part of the game.

    • This site is not mean. All dog owners have "bad dog" stories. We share them with a laugh, often trying to one-up each other. But it's always done affectionately. Think Marley and Me (the book, not the crappy movie). Bad dog stories bring back good memories. For example: Pepper and I fought over the kitchen trash her entire life. It was exasperating. I would buy new trash cans, booby trap trash cans, scold her anytime she went near the trash can -- but she didn't care. She wanted what was in the can so badly that it was worth the price. She was a hardheaded bitch. She would spread trash all over the house. The only thing we could do was take the trash out regularly -- it didn't always work. If Dog Shaming had been around I would have posted her trashy face on it a dozen times!! Yet I would gladly clean up table scraps and coffee grounds everyday if it meant that I could have Pepper back.

    • Of course these events could have been prevented!! In hindsight, I should have waited outside Petsmart a little longer so Roxy could do her business beforehand. When viewing Dog Shaming pictures critically, you can say that these dogs should have been better supervised, items should have been picked up, doors could have closed. But that's not the point of this site. This is a place where dog owners can share their frustrations with other dog people who "get it." Truth is, our beloved companions are still dogs, and dogs do weird things. They eat cat poop, they drink out of the toilet, they shred things with wild abandon.

So, the lesson learned from today's event is: Dogs will be dogs, and sometimes dogs do things that embarrass their owners. Instead of getting mad, take a picture and have a good laugh. Before I go, I'm going to share a couple Dog Shaming pictures that had me crying earlier. I apologize in advance if you don't see the humor. -- K
